Any suggestions about what to do in Portland?
Headed to Portland March 2, and have never been there. I've seen and read a lot about the foodie culture, so there's a few places I want to try. It also just seems like a chill place to meet interesting people. Perhaps I think that because I had a lovely English professor from Portland in college.
I love nature walks, food, and learning nerdy facts about the places i visit. I went to Seattle last year and did the underground tour, quirky stuff like that is right up my alley.
If you're a Portlander and want to meet up for a donut (why are there so many donut places?) let me know!
Also, I am still deciding where to stay. Considering Hawthorne House hostel or possibly AirBnB. If you have any tips or have a spare couch to offer in exchange for freshly-baked pies I'm game
Check out the NW Portland Hostel. They will provide you with everything you need. It's in a great location and within walking distance of many of the classic "things to do" in Portland, the food carts, Powell's books, shopping, more food, etc.
If you like ice creme, hit Salt & Straw. They sell very unique flavors and are delicious!
Forest Park is there in the West Hills area for hiking along with a multitude of other places you can go.
Pick up a Willamette Week (they are on the sidewalks) around Powell's and other areas if you want. It's an alternative weekly newspaper that gives you what else is going on in the city...concerts, places to eat, clubs, etc.
Also, check out the Columbia Gorge and Multnomah Falls if you get the chance.
