    Volunteering in Southeast Asia?

I've heard wonderful things about volunteering in Southeast Asia and I'll be there in mid to late July, into August. I was just wondering if anyone felt like sharing their experiences. How did you locate opportunities? What sites did you go through? Was there anything you encountered that you didn't expect? Is it usually necessary to apply ahead of time, and if so, how far in advance? Anything that covers food and a roof over my head is great, but I don't anticipate needing to volunteer for those reasons. I just want the experience.

Is Workaway a good place to start? What is everyone's opinion of Workaway in general?

    Thanks,

I work for a voluntourism organization and we work with:

    • Ockenden Cambodia,
    • Mekong Turtle Conservation Center,
    • The Elephant Valley Project,
    • Banteay Chmar Community Based Tourism Group (CBT), and
    • Tiny Toones Youth Center.

I work at HQ so I don't know much about what our participants do with each partner (sometimes we volunteer, sometimes we visit to learn), but hopefully this list helps you out! As we host groups of 8-12 participants, we usually arrange everything ahead of time; but since you're one person, it may be easier for you to get a foot in.

Haven't worked with Workaway so I can't help you out there! But good luck!!
